MAACHO

Rootsman Skankin'!

Maacho is considered by many to be one of the most influential personalities in the Hawaiian Reggae Community. He was born in Jamaica and raised in England during his teen years where he developed his left handed guitar style and stage presence while working as a D.J. and musician, earning the respect of his fans and fellow musicians alike. His concert performances separate him from many others and truly put him in the category of pure entertainer. Moving to Hawai`i in the mid 1970’s, Maacho is one of the pioneers in the Hawaiian Reggae Scene.

Over the years he has opened and performed with such artists as: Jimmy Cliff, Toots, Ziggy Marley, and Alpha Blondy, just to name a few. Maacho has also been a major influence on several local groups now in the spotlight, including Dread Ashanti and Natural Vibrations. His currently released recording projects have been distributed in Hawai`i, the mainland, and Japan.

Maacho, The Father of Roots Reggae in Hawaii.

On a personal side he is a soft spoken and articulate ambassador of the reggae culture here in the islands and abroad. His philosophy on life is captured in the lyrics of his original compositions, portraying life’s joys, trials and tribulations, and even answers to some of life’s most puzzling questions. At this time he is currently working on yet another album, soon to be released, in which he continues to adhere to his principles of the Rastafarian way of life, which goes way beyond the music. He is truly a major component in the heart and soul of Reggae in Hawai`i.
